Converting 200 series amps to solid state

Hi All,

I am thinking about changing the input stage of my BC204 to solid state.

Has anyone done this? What was the result?

Thanks!

Stew

Are you modding the BC3000 II to make it balanced?

Hi lpw I asked Gilbert to build me a linear PS and I sent him the specs of the "wall Wort" PS that came with the computer case. I left the design up to Gilbert. You are correct about budget. The PS cost more than all of the other parts of the PC combined. If you email Gilbert he can probably tell yo...

Comes with external power supply but I had Gilbert build me a custom PS AMD motherboard with built in CPU don't recall model. I could look it up 60 GB SS HD 4 GB RAM DVD drive (LG ...

I built a CAPS V1. Got parts from local computer store rather than exact parts described on Computer Audiophile. Totally silent. Files are on a NAS in another room. Player software is jRiver Mc17. Win7 is configured according to advice from Ayre. Files are FLAC at minimal compression. USB cable is f...

Hi Stew,

It's worth a try. USB tunnel is not super expensive. Bel Canto and Wavelength make them too.

Just for fun, why not bypass the TacT just to see how it sounds in the resolution and musicality departments?

Hi Stew I made an error in my post. I meant to write that The BDA-1 has a USB input. Have you tried getting a free demo version of a Mac music player (Amarra, Pure Music) and then going directly to the BDA-1 via USB cable? This would at least give you an idea of what it sounds like before buying a n...

Hi Stew, I'm a computer audio geek. You should be able to exceed the performance of your DVD transport using a computer as source. The digital output of the airport is not appropriate for perfectionist audio. Likewise, iTunes has a great user interface but it does not output bit-perfect data. You wo...

Hey Gang,

Is the 6SN7 an acceptable replacement for a 6922/6DJ8 or would my BC204 turn into a smoking 80 pound paper weight?

Hi Nikki

I had the same experience when I built a new server with an SSD and no fans. How do you connect the external HD to the server? I use conventional HDs in a network attached storage device which is connected by ethernet cable to the server through a router.

Pics of my system will have to wait until I get propper stands. Right now I am using brics while I determine the ideal height. I'll get stands built once I'm done fiddling then take a photo. I'm not married to using valves exclusively anymore. I actually gave up my BC3000 II in favour of a Pass Labs...
