Last evening I played a (mono) Toscanini of Beethoven's 5th at a health volume. Unfortunately the recording quality of much Toscanini stuff leaves me wanting ... I was curious to see how much this has changed with recent improvements to my LP setup ... quite a bit, but no miracle ... so about half way through I grabbed my trusty von Karajan and played the entire thing, and this time I let it rip!
At the end I touched one of the BC8s out of curiosity thinking it must have heated up appreciably but I was surprised to find it just a tad warmer that normal.
Now my speakers (PSB Stratus Gold-i) are not terribly inefficient but they are known to suck current for the lows if the amp can provide it and frankly this seems to be true as they were literally transformed when the BC8-IIs arrived. ... but yet blasting the 5th from start to end seems so much child's play!
