I'm interested in seeing Blue Circle develop a BC Headphone Amp - possibly a tubed-design...

Any other BC forum users serious about owning a BC Headphone Amp in the future? Please confirm your interest by responding to this post...

All the best...

I've been asking for this for months. Hope to see it someday. I'll definitely buy. I think a tubed design would be preferable too. 2 inputs (one is OK too). High quality volume control. Blue casing with stainless front.

Most certainly. I'd particularly like one that mates well with the upper end Senns.

Yes, I use Senns too, HD600s.

I've learned that several manufacturers are releasing tube headphone amps. One is Ray Samuels audio; others are confidential (CES debuts). Come on Blue Circle! Make us happy campers. :D

OK. We're thinking about it. We've even gone so far as to discuss it. It's at the point where we would like your thoughts on the matter.

IF (big if) Gilbert does a headphone amp it will not be an economy job. There are far too many of those out there already. If you're looking for a cheap one then buy an existing model because Blue Circle won't be making one. IF there is to be a Blue Circle headphone amp it will be designed for musicality, for the audiophile whose primary listening is done with premium headphones.

So, what are you guys looking for? What's your budget? Are you serious about headphone listening or just casual?

Let us know.

ps: Enough of this "we want tubes" stuff! IF Gilbert does this thing he will apply the technology he believes is the most appropriate. That's why we call him the designer :)

I think we are asking for a BC headphone amp because we like the sound of BC products and trust Gilbert's design judgement. I just mentioned tubes because I like the sound of tubes, but good tubed headphone amps are rare. Whatever he thinks is best, is best IMO.

I use my headphone system as a serious listening tool when my main system is unusable because my wife is watching TV or whatever, or just to get closer to the music. I'm looking for a high-end amp, not something cheap (I agree, lots of these around). Sure, the headphone sound is different than speakers, but I want that completely involving and satisfying musical experience regardless. As a point of reference I have a Grace 901 headphone amp which is $1500. I use Sennheiser HD600 headphones with aftermarket Equinox cables. Blue Circle Music Ring and powercords. Wavelength Audio DAC. Nirvana digial cable. It's a serious system, more than I ever imagined (scope creep!).

I'd say $1500 is a reasonable target price point. That's high for a headphone amp, but not out of reach for serious users. $800-$1200 would be better, reach more people. It would take a lot to persuade me to pay more. Above $1500 and you gotta be GOOD. Stax systems are more, but have a different sound (electrostats) and considered premium. You could also build an amp for Stax Omega headphones. There's an EAR headphone amp that's around $4000; I have no idea who buys that one!

Features: high-quality volume control, able to drive difficult loads (HD600s, Etymonics) but not have hiss with more efficient headphones, multiple inputs (2-3). Simple as that. Small chassis would be nice. One headphone output should be fine. Some manufacturers make them dual use as preamps. Please, no crossfeed circuits.

But don't feel pressured ; ) I just think a BC headphone amp would be cool to have. You should check out Head-fi.org to see how folks talk about this stuff.

I'm going to have to have the office checked for bugs. It almost sounds like you were eavesdropping on our conversations. :)
