i am really looking forward to getting this back out west and hearing what it sounds like. gilbert and especially mark have been very patient throughout the process holding my hand through the sea of information that is computer audio. i have spent 6 months trying to learn all about this stuff. my space and funds are limited and this seems to fit both criteria. i ordered some dhlabs optical cable and furutech bnc connectors. it is also going to be an outboard dac for my musical fidelity 3.2 cd. i didn't want wireless so i just got a squeezebox touch with 25 feet of cat 6 cable to connect to my mac pro. i am already impressed with sound of the sb touch. the cd player sounds better but the sb touch sounds very good with hi-res music or ripped sacd through the analogue outputs. the one flaw i notice is the forward presentation and muddled bass through the sb touch so far. i trust that the bc 509 will help with that. i have never heard any bc gear and i have had the same forte amp and preamp for 25 years. i am hoping to have gilbert and mark breath some new life into those two pieces of equipment this summer.

hi again and thank you for the welcome to the forum. my tuner/dac arrived late yesterday. i had to open the cabinet to see for my self what had been done. the smell of silicon was the first noticeable sign, something i am familiar with after months of home reno's caulking up an old house. i really admire the attention to detail in side even though i don't understand what most of it is. it was great to see the warm glow of the three front dials all lit up. i should have my interconnects finished today and will post an update after a few days of listening. i am teaching tonight at the mac users group here on the island. the subject is music, iTunes and hifi. i hope i have learned enough to come across as an intelligent resource. i am really enjoying the squeezebox touch. after listening for 3 weeks now the shine has worn off a bit and i am yearning for a richer and more filling sound, glad my dac arrived.
thank you again mark and gilbert! |

to start, a short story. i just got back from my friend's house who soldered up my dh labs cables with furutech bnc connectors and rca's on the other end. my 8 year daughter asked what they were for, i explained. i hooked up the cables and on her request she asked to hear adele 21. it started playing and the conversation went
who is this?
it's adele
i haven't heard this one before
yes you have, a hundred times
(adele then starts singing)
oh i know this one
i know you do
but dad, it sounds like she is singing inside our room
from what i can guess she hadn't heard the guitar before in that track and it sounded so real to her for the first time
great review from an 8 year old, my thought echo hers, musical, stunning mid range and bass. it has pushed the soundstage back about 6 feet from the stock logitech unit, musical fidelity cd player has had a veil lifted off it and i was always impressed with it's sound. very happy so far and it still only has a few hours of listening time. i am having such a great deal of renewed fun with this whole computer audio thing. after a few weeks of listening i will do some a/b vinyl in the mix. yesterday spent most of my listening on steve earle "townes" and neil young's 24/96 dvd collection. buena vista social club is on now, all is good!!!!
