Good to see you are getting into PC audio. If you have the option of placing the computer a little further away from your rack, then you might want to give it a try. When I had the server next to the rack, it really dragged down the rest of the system. I have lined the inside of the case with ERS fabric and Dynamat, which seems to help somewhat.
I also got the Sonore Sata and Fan noise filters a little while ago and they made a significant improvement in SQ on my music server. Highly recommend giving them a try.

WELL ! now isn't that just the coolest stuff ! Unfortunately, the ACER box (prebuilt) I'm using for a music server doesn't have a standard Molex for fan .. it actually only has the single fan on the CPU, and a tiny fan on the vid card. so, no big 120mm fan on this box. It runs stupid cool and very quiet.
I might consider one of the SATA noise filters though, although, again, with it being a prebuilt box, getting access to the hard drive is awkward (small form factor box) and non standard cable lengths.
I picked the ACER up as boxing day blow out in 2010 to just mess around with for music delivery. As things stabilize a bit more, I figure I may splash out for a more dedicated player platform for a server. |

Updated pic .. with the latest addition, moved from Harbeth M30 to SHL5, a bit more weight in the bottom, and awesome driver integration.. beautiful tone and timbre.
