"The BC501 had a naturalness about it that allowed me to take my mind off the recording and I became awash in the joy of music."

Craig Fitzpatrick, The Stereo Times July, 2007

As you may know Gilbert has been working on a D/A convertor for some time. The BC501 isn't our first convertor. It's just the first one that has gone into production. The AG9000 convertor has been around for quite a while and has seen considerable use at shows and currently resides in our top reference system.

So, why did we build a convertor since there are already so many out there?  It's not as though there aren't some very good ones available from a number of manufacturers. We built the AG9000 because we couldn't find a convertor that combined the factors of musicality, accuracy and a sense of dynamic realism in quite the way that we imagined it could be done.  The AG9000 was (and is ) quite remarkable but for various reasons it will not be a production item. It is a test bed and a reference for Blue Circle's D/A technology.

Now, back to the BC501 which is what we're supposed to be talking about.

The BC501 is a two channel, 24 bit, 8X oversampling convertor. We chose this configuration for one very simple reason. It works. The BC501 doesn't just process information. It plays music.

The BC501's D/A convertor is a precision 24 bit device with exceptionally high dynamic performance. The ultra low distortion and excellent low level signal performance make the BC501 an ideal candidate for audiophile applications.

The BC501ob

wp5869fc8e.jpg

The BC501ob has the same specifications as the BC501 with the exception of the power supply. The over 880,000 uf seperate power supply is housed in a chassis with the same dimensions as the BC501 chassis.

The BC501ob employs dual DC powercords. One for analog and one for digital.

The heart of the BC501 incorporates BiCMOS sign-magnitude architecture that keeps the signal at perfect zero which results in a blacker background and much lower noise floor. The heart of the convertor is precision laser trimmed to produce the highest linear level of differential linearity and gain.
